  • The business side of things...
  • What kind of company is Women of University Calendars and Women of KU Swimsuit Calendar?
We're not like the other guys...
The Women of University Calendars products are top notch quality… there isn't another collegiate calendar with higher production values… period. We've checked… and each year we check again.
Want more proof? Ask any previous or current Women of KU swimsuit model about their experience. This is the very reason Inside Edition produced and broadcast a highlight on us and the same reason premier advertisers like Fitness Magazine and Miller-Coors Brewing sponsor us each year.
We strive to be open with communication and adhere to a transparent business model. Women of University Calendars models won't be asked to jello wrestle each other for crowd cheers, nor do we force you to sell calendars for us. That's just not cool, unfair to everyone involved and not our style. Back to questions
  • Submitting Photos to Apply
  • What type of photos of me are needed to apply?
    2 Full Body swimsuit photos
    1 Headshot
The photos you submit with your application
    MUST BE CURRENT

    Full Body swimsuit photos instructions
    A) One photo of you facing towards the camera
    B) One photo of you from the side, arms down (a profile photo)
TIP: Have a friend help you take these two photos, use a mirror or even the camera's self-timer. Photos taken on a plain background like a white wall with an average digital camera work best and are the easiest. Each applicant must attach these photos at the end of the application before submitting to be in the calendar.

    Headshot photo instructions
Try to fill most of the photo with your beautiful face! Don't crop off the top of your head or your chin though.

The photos MUST BE CURRENT, what you look like now. Please do not submit old photos of yourself.
Any additional photos can be fun snapshots, professional photos you have taken, you dressed up for a night on the town, etc.
Again, these photos should be recent.

Please only submit jpg format photos.
Each photo needs to be under 1 megabyte in size. Please reduce the file size to 1000K (1 megabyte) or less.
All digital point and shoot cameras now take photos in the jpg format. The photos must have the .jpg extension at the end of the file name. Back to questions
  • Uploading Photos
  • How long will it take to upload my photos with my application?
Each photo you attach MUST be under 1.5 Megabyte or 1,500Kb in size. Please check this before attaching larger photos.
If your photos are NOT, you will receive an error message and your application WILL NOT go through.
It shouldn't take over a minute to finish uploading all of your application photos if you are using a broadband (Cable) connection.
Please be patient. We receive thousands of photos over the course of the application period. Back to questions

  • Applying to be a calendar model
  • When is the deadline for applying to be in the 2011 Women of KU calendar?
The deadline for applying is April 11th, 2010. At that point our staff will begin the pre-selection process, send emails to the applicants and set up interview dates. Back to questions
  • I can't read the security words at the end of the application. What do I do?
If you cannot make out the two words in the security box at the end of the application simply click the refresh button in the box. The icon for this is two arrows making a circle. This will place two new words in the box for you to use. All words that appear in the box are standard English words or phrases. Back to questions
  • How old do I need to be to apply?
As long as you are 18 by the end of May, 2010, you are eligible. Back to questions
  • Do I have to be enrolled in the university to be eligible?
Yes. You must be enrolled and attend the 2010-2011 school year to be eligible for the calendar. Taking summer classes at university but NOT enrolling in the standard/normal school year does not qualify. Back to questions
  • I will be in graduate school in the 2010-2011 school year, can I still apply?
Yes, graduate students are welcome to apply. Back to questions
  • A friend of mine has been in the calendar more than one year. Can I be in it more than one year?
Yes, you can. If a calendar model has been in more than one year, she has been a great participant in the previous years calendars such as calendar model appearances, selling calendars, etc. These are some of the traits we look for in calendar model selection each year. Back to questions
  • What cool benefits and perks do you get when you selected as a Women of KU calendar model?
For starters, you are part of an elite collegiate swimsuit calendar and tradition like none other out there. The Women of KU! Each Women of KU swimsuit model gets a free hair styling, cut and color each month their entire school year at the salon who provided hair styling for the models during the photo shoot. We're talking about professionally trained stylists and hair artists, not the "We have a friend of a friend doing hair today" treatment that other calendars use. You also receive free tans your entire school year from a Lawrence based tanning salon. Of course we give our models Women of KU shirts or tote bags or hats as well.
Oh yeah, there's a bit of celebrity status that goes along with all of it too... we're just sayin... It's easy to understand when you ask any current or previous Women of KU model what her experience was like... the best ever! In fact, almost all models try out again for the next year's calendar but we are always looking for new fresh faces to place in the calendar.
The calendar owner, David Gillispie, has relationships with many television and radio broadcasting networks. Quite often he will have a group of his models interviewed through an ESPN affiliate, local station or others. If you are ok with some celebrity status on your shoulder then apply now! Back to questions
  • I realize this is a swimsuit calendar but, do I have to wear a swimsuit to be in it?
Yes. This IS a swimsuit calendar so you need to be comfortable wearing a swimsuit that fits you well and taking part in your professional photo shoot. Back to questions
  • Selection Process & Interview
  • How do you select the models in the calendar?
    Two-part answer
    (A) The photos you attach to your online application is the first selection step. This is, of course, a swimsuit calendar so find a bikini that flatters your body style. Also, a calendar model's positive attitude and willingness to become part of an elite group of girls during the school year, the model's personality, ability to participate in personal appearances around the area and signing calendars are all a factor in the selection process. All of the models will be meeting and interacting with the public during the school year.
    (B) There is also an interview process the calendar hosts for the final applicants. This is to meet the final selected models face-to-face. At the end of the interview you will be photographed in your swimsuit as a test shoot, it is basic and simple, nothing fancy, but serves as a reference for what the real calendar photo shoot would look like. After this interview the final calendar models will be selected and notified. Then the fun begins! Back to questions
  • I have been selected for an interview! Where is it at and what should I wear?
The interviews will be held in Lawrence, KS. If you are selected, you will be contacted by one of the staff members a couple weeks prior so you can adjust your schedule to be there. The interview process shouldn't take more than 30 minutes.
Please dress nice for the interview... a flattering outfit works great. You will need to wear a swimsuit under your outfit so the staff photographer can take your photo in it after the interview process. Or, you may bring one with you and change in to it. There will be a private changing area available for all models. Back to questions
  • What if I have never modeled or been a model before?
Only a few selected have actually had direct modeling experience before. The largest portion of applicants have no modeling experience. The swimsuit calendar's highly sought-after photographer, David Gillispie, has over a decade of experience - he will guide and direct you through your photo shoot. You will quickly understand why all of the models he has worked with in the past speak so tremendously of him and his photographic work. Back to questions
  • I have a scar or a tattoo that is visible in a swimsuit. Is that OK?
Neither of these have any affect for applying and being in the swimsuit calendar. Noticeable scars and tattoos will be digitally removed by our team of amazing photo editing professionals. We bet you can't tell which models have tattoos by looking at the calendar! ; ) Back to questions
  • I am not as tall as most of the calendar models... can I still be in the calendar?
Remember, this is not a runway fashion show... this is a swimsuit calendar. A model's height does not play a role in being selected for this publication. Back to questions
  • Does my gpa affect my chances of being selected?
No, the calendar model selection process is not based on any one factor alone. Back to questions
  • If I have been selected to be in the calendar when will I know?
All selected calendar models will be notified in April, 2010. Back to questions
  • The Photo Shoot
  • When will the calendar photo shoot take place?
Sometime in the month of June, 2010. If you are selected, you will receive more information on the location, time and all the details. Back to questions
  • What about hair styling and makeup? Should I bring my own?
There will be several professional hair stylists and professional makeup artists provided at all of the photo shoots for every model. They will make sure you look your best for your photos! We employ only certified professional makeup artists and hair stylists for the calendar models. Back to questions
  • Where will the calendar photo shoot take place?
Each university calendar is unique... the location and backdrop for each school and model will be determined as the end of the 2009 school year approaches. It will be communicated to you, if selected, at that time. Back to questions
  • How long will the photo shoot take?
Each model will need to be available for one full day, roughly 9am - 8pm. During this time you will go through hair styling, makeup application, create your video, your calendar model photo shoot and plenty of time to hang out with all of the other calendar models. We take having fun seriously! Back to questions
  • Will I get photos of me that were taken during the photo shoot?
Yes... you will receive photos that you can use in your model portfolio, on Facebook and more. Many calendar models in the past have used their photos to begin or continue their career in modeling. Back to questions
